At this point, Trump’s hair has its own news cycle, completely separate from anything happening in actual politics.
This week’s chapter played out aboard Air Force One, where the president was photographed heading off for a golf trip to Bedminster.

A biographer named Michael Wolff has, somewhat improbably, become the closest thing to an authority on the subject. He appeared on a podcast recently to weigh in on what’s actually going on under there. When host Joanna Coles compared one of Trump’s fuller looks to a hamster, Wolff delivered his verdict on what he believes is hiding beneath it all in a single word: “Nothing.”

Trump himself seems aware of the running joke, and he’s tried heading it off more than once.
At a recent Rose Garden appearance, he brought up an old story from a windy 2024 rally in Ohio, telling the crowd that “for years, I had to suffer with people saying, ‘He wears a wig.'” His argument was that if it were fake, the wind that night would have blown it off his head.
That defense hasn’t stopped the jokes from piling up, though.
That’s not ‘hair’ – that’s some dust bunnies made into a merkin.

What makes the whole thing confusing is how much his hair seems to change from one appearance to the next. One week in Las Vegas, it looked golden and full. A few days later, under the Oval Office lights, it looked much thinner, with his forehead showing through the combover.
A stop in Texas landed somewhere in the middle, with his hair looking almost white. Then, during a visit to a police academy on Long Island, he turned his head and briefly revealed what looked like a bald spot while speaking.
Hair loss specialist Dina Kales, who owns a restoration company in New York, has been asked to weigh in more than once. “I don’t believe President Trump is wearing a wig or hairpiece,” she said, pointing instead to something far more ordinary. Freshly dyed hair tends to look darker and fuller right after treatment, she explained, and as gray regrowth comes in underneath, the same hair can suddenly look thinner and patchy by comparison.
