Trump, Leaving The White House, Told Reporters He Will Not Be Visiting John Lewis Who Is Lying In State At US Capitol

Why am I not surprised?

Today, the late Rep. John Lewis arrived at the United States Capitol where he will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda.

The Civil Rights icon will be only the second African-American individual to receive such an honor, the first being Rosa Parks — serving as further proof that there is still a serious problem with systemic racism in this country.

Over the past handful of months, President Donald Trump has made it a point to stir racial tension in this nation. Instead of taking the time to hear the protesters who took to the streets against racism and police brutality in the United States, on the heels of the murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and so many to come before them, Donald Trump immediately used every ounce of power he had to his name, and then some, to bring the full force of federal agents acting like police down on people who dared to exercise their First Amendment rights.

Since those first protests, Trump has only doubled down on his blatant racism in every conceivable way.

Even his expression of condolences for the passing of John Lewis was a day late, a dollar short, and clearly nothing more than watered-down and obligatory, at best.

I mean, he expressed more heartfelt grief for Regis Philbin.

And now that Lewis is lying in state just a rock’s pitch from Trump’s undeserved digs at the White House, Donald is now going the extra mile to prove that his tweet of condolence was about as meaningful as the rest of his “promises.”

Today, when speaking with reporters as he departed the White House for a visit to North Carolina, Donald Trump revealed that he would not be visiting the Civil Rights icon at the US Capitol, today or tomorrow.

“No, I won’t be going. No,” Trump responded to the reporter who asked if he would be visiting John Lewis.

Multiple reports have indicated that former Vice President and Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden will be in attendance. Even Mike Pence is scheduled to pay a visit. However, the president himself wasted no time in making it strikingly clear that, frankly, he just doesn’t give a damn.

And honestly, I have never been so ashamed of this country in all my life.
