Earlier this year, Donald Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl. However, Trump left before the game was over, as the team he appeared to be rooting for, the Kansas City Chiefs, lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

There was then controversy over whether Trump would host the Eagles at the Super Bowl, leading to an invitation that will have the Eagles in Washington next week. However, Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts was left speechless on Thursday when asked if he plans to attend.

On Friday, Trump chose to weigh in on the ongoing NFL Draft, which began on Thursday and involves NFL teams selecting new players as they enter the league.

The big story in Thursday night’s first round was that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who had been expected to be drafted highly, was not chosen in the first round and remains on the board heading into Friday’s second round. Sanders is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who coached him at Colorado.

Trump, weighing in on Truth Social,  felt very strongly that NFL owners  — many of whom are his supporters and past donors — are “STUPID” for passing on the younger Sanders.

“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart!,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be “picked” IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”

It’s unclear whether Trump and Deion Sanders are friends, but the elder Sanders once teamed up with the right-wing billionaires, the Koch brothers, on an initiative. Although Trump and the Kochs were sometimes at odds, they did collaborate on certain projects. And ironically, a Fox Sports analyst compared Deion Sanders to Trump last week.

“It’s the complete and utter blind allegiance that is required in order to do business with the president… The same is true for Deion Sanders,” radio host Doug Gottlieb said of Sanders last week.

Ron Filipkowski, on X, called Trump “Don Kiper Jr,” referring to the veteran ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper, Jr., and also noted Trump’s apparent fixation on genetics:
