Over the weekend, Donald Trump gave the greenlight for a gay wedding at his Florida Mar-a-Lago golf resort and personal post-White House home, leaving more questions about a presidential policy issue that it seems even Donald Trump can’t quite figure out where Donald Trump stands on it.
The marriage of Dan Medora and John Sullivan, the vice chairman and treasurer for the Log Cabin Republicans of Tennessee, was announced by the Log Cabin Republicans of Tennessee on their Facebook page.
The group describes themselves as “LGBT Republicans and straight allies who support equality under the law for all, free markets, individual liberty, limited government, and a strong national defense.”
In their social media post on Sunday, the group posted photos of the Mar-a-Lago gay wedding, captioned, “An amazing time was had by all at John Sullivan and Dan Medora’s unforgettable wedding at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. A celebration of love and style that will be cherished forever. Thanks for the amazing weekend, fellas!”

Sullivan took to his own Instagram account to personally thank the scandal-plagued former president for his “greenlight” of the nuptuals, writing in a post, “Huge thank you to Donald Trump for giving us the green light to have our wedding at the beautiful Mar-a-Lago club.”
His husband Dan wrote, “John and I could not be more grateful for everyone who came down to celebrate with us all weekend! Everything was beyond what we’d dreamt of and are so thankful everyone had a wonderful time! A huge, very big THANK YOU to our families, friends, planners, designers and hosts at @themaralagoclub for making our dream celebration come to life.”

While Sullivan and his fellow Log Cabin Republicans attempt to credit Trump for appointing the first openly gay American to a cabinet position when Richard Grenell was appointed as Director of National Intelligence during Donald’s final year in office, the Human Rights Campaign has a running list of Trump’s countless transgressions against the LGBTQIA+ community during his administration that serves to counteract this one “good deed” — including his transgender military ban, a Supreme Court argument in favor of LGBTQ employment discrimination, rolling back multiple Obama-era protections for the community, and the removal of HIV+ military members.
To be frank, I think this has a whole lot less to do with Donald Trump’s support of the gay community, and a whole lot more to do with the fact that Donnie’s got a half-billion dollar bill to settle and he doesn’t much care how it gets paid.
