Donald Trump held what was supposed to be a White House “Vaccine Summit” on Tuesday. According to STAT, both Pfizer and Moderna, the two major drug manufacturers likely to receive emergency authorizations for a Covid-19 vaccine in the coming weeks, declined the invitation from Trump to attend.
And that was probably a wise decision from the drug manufacturers since the “Vaccine Summit” appeared to quickly turn into a campaign-style event filled with outright lies and denial of the election results in which President-elect promptly curb-stomped Trump in both the electoral and popular vote. There was a lot to unpack with Trump’s speech.
A reporter confronted the president about why the White House is holding in-person parties that violates CDC guidelines, and Trump said, “Well, they’re Christmas parties.” Trump also said that he had seen a lot of people at the gatherings wearing protective face masks. The president is rarely seen wearing a face mask, though.
Then, another reporter said that “the next administration will be the one that implements a lot of the distribution of this vaccine and will oversee” how Operation Warp Speed goes forward. He asked why the president didn’t include the Biden transition team members as part of the summit that Trump was hosting.

Trump didn’t appear to like that question, insisting that “we won” the election that he clearly lost. “Well, we’re gonna have to see who the next administration is,” Trump continued, adding, “hopefully the next administration will be the Trump administration.” Trump falsely claimed, “We were rewarded with a victory.”

Following that, Trump called for judges and Republican legislators to have the “courage” to help the president overthrow the election, and added, “I’ll tell you what, life will be much easier for this country.” So, if Trump said he was “rewarded with a victory,” then why is he begging Republicans to help him with his attempted coup? Trump lost, yet his enablers allow this shitshow to continue while the president tears away at our democracy. What we just witnessed is straitjacket material.
