Late on Friday night, President Donald Trump ranted on Truth Social about how unfair the media has been in covering the Iran war.

“The Fake News Media hates to report how well the United States Military has done against Iran, which is totally defeated and wants a deal – But not a deal that I would accept! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT,” Trump said on Truth Social.

The post was of a piece with the president’s usual posture towards the media, although this particular argument was reminiscent of something else: The Bush Administration’s posture during the Iraq War, when negative reporting about how the war was going was treated by the then-president and his supporters as the equivalent of treason.

On Saturday morning, Trump attacked the media once again.

“Yet again, an intentionally misleading headline by the Fake News Media about the five tanker planes that were supposedly struck down at an Airport in Saudi Arabia, and of no further use,” he said. “In actuality, the Base was hit a few days ago, but the planes were not ‘struck’ or ‘destroyed.’ Four of the five had virtually no damage, and are already back in service. One had slightly more damage, but will be in the air shortly. None were destroyed, or close to that, as the Fake News said in headlines. The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal (in particular), and other Lowlife “Papers” and Media actually want us to lose the War.”

Earlier on Friday, , Trump had launched a separate attack on New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who has covered Trump going back to his New York real estate days, and previously wrote a biography of the president after his first term. He ripped her as “Maggot Hagerman,” stated that she “insists on writing false stories about me, even though she fully knows and understands that the exact opposite of anything she says is usually the truth.” It was speculated that Haberman, who has not been writing for the Times in recent months, has another book coming out, and had approached Trump for comment in reaction to her reporting.
