Support for Donald Trump has been waning lately, there’s no denying that. But according to new polling, it may be reaching a new low that the mentally unstable former guy likely won’t be able to handle — especially once he finds out who’s edging him out.

A new poll, released by GOP pollster Carter Wrenn on the behalf of a super PAC belonging to John Bolton, Donald Trump’s own former National Security Advisor, Trump’s support among those polled regarding 2024 GOP presidential candidates, shows that the former president’s support has taken a staggering 20 point hit, leaving him in a virtual tie with none other than Florida Governor Ron DeSantis himself.

According to the poll, Trump now only boasts the support of 26.2 percent of Republican voters, with DeSantis hot on his tail at 25.2 percent. While at first glance, Trump is technically still ahead by a hair, that’s a startling difference from the 46 percent he boasted as the top choice among Republicans as recently as July.

In a statement, Bolton said, “These numbers will probably come as a shock to Donald Trump. After 20 years in Afghanistan, it’s clear that Americans are unhappy with leaving as we did. Voters were smart enough to see that President Trump started the withdrawal and legitimized the Taliban through negotiations. They recognize that withdrawal carries more risks for the homeland than keeping a U.S. and NATO military presence in Afghanistan.”

“Biden bears the responsibility for the final embarrassing moments and his corresponding drop in support reflects that, but it’s not lost on anyone that Trump, like Biden, wanted to withdraw and shares the blame for the failure,” Bolton added. “National security matters to voters, especially when failure leads to greater risks, so you rightly see conservatives quickly considering options other than Donald Trump.”

All in all, around 20 percent of poll takers were undecided when asked to choose their top pick for a 2024 presidential candidate. Other options included in the poll such as former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, but all other potential candidates ultimately polled in the single digits. The majority of those polled (57 percent) said that “to move forward we need new leaders and fresh faces.”

According to Newsweek, “The poll was conducted nationally among 1,000 likely voters between September 16 and September 18. It has a margin of error of 3.1 percent.”
