Has Donald Trump accidentally admitted that he’s having non-public talks with Iran?

Mediaite reported that he may have, based on something he said this week in an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.

In the interview that aired on Wednesday, Bartiromo asked the president about his audibly hoarse voice. First, she asked if he was hoarse from “negotiating with China.”

Trump responded that he had actually been yelling at the Iranians, even though there have been no reports about Trump participating in any direct talks with Iran. Instead, diplomats convened by Pakistan have been leading those negotiations, which were joined by Vice President JD Vance last weekend.

“I’ve been screaming at Iranians all day, yes. A little bit of a laryngitis because of my scream. I’ve been screaming at the Iranians,” Trump said. When Bartiromo asked if it was the Iranian leadership or someone else, Trump answered, “You know why? You know why? Because that’s the only thing they understand. They don’t understand being nice. They understand the way I have to do business. I treat all people differently.”

On MS NOW Wednesday night, during their crossover, Chris Hayes and Jen Psaki discussed what may have been a major revelation, as noted by Mediaite.

“I don’t know what that means. I mean, if he were talking to Iranians on the phone all day, that would be big news,” Psaki said.

Hayes responded that there are a three different possibilities: Either Trump is engaged in “direct top-level, president-level diplomacy happening over the phone,” or that “he’s lying, which that would be par for the course,” or that “he’s so deluded and out of touch reality, he thinks he’s been talking to Iranians when he hasn’t.”

Another possibility is that Trump has been screaming about the Iranians, and misspoke when he said “at” them.
