Walmart announced Monday that it would lower food prices on certain summer items at Walmart and Sam’s Club locations. And Donald Trump, naturally, is claiming credit for the price drops.

“This summer, Walmart and Sam’s Club are helping customers and members save more with thousands of lower prices through Walmart’s signature Rollbacks and Sam’s Club offers across stores and clubs nationwide,” the retail chain announced in a press release. “From backyard barbecues and family vacations to pool days and neighborhood gatherings, the savings are designed to help customers and members make the most of the season while spending less on the products they need, want, and love most.”

The release outlined price drops for specific items, including ground beef, corn on the cob, chips, soda, and more. The president and his supposed role in the price decreases are not mentioned in the release.

In a Truth Social post, Trump took credit and also took shots at his predecessor.

“Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday,” Trump said in the post.

“Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products. This is a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A. My Administration is lowering prices that Joe Biden incompetently raised with the worst inflation crisis in history, a total disaster along with the Southern Border, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and many other failures.”

CNN reported, however, that “summer sales are typical for chains like Walmart and these discounts had been in place for a week before Trump’s Truth Social post. For example, the soda packs that are on sale were discounted last summer, as well, according to the Facebook page of a Walmart location in Texas.”

The president had also taken credit in 2025, CNN said, for Walmart’s Thanksgiving meal basket being cheaper than the one the year before, but CNN’s factchecker noted that the claim was missing context.
