The mystery of exactly what’s going on with Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health continues to deepen.

According to a New York Times report on Monday, McConnell, the 84-year-old former Senate Majority Leader, has been hospitalized since suffering a medical emergency three weeks ago, and his office is providing scant details about his condition.

“The most recent statement from Mr. McConnell’s office, on Thursday, said that the senator ‘appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital’ and that he ‘continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session,'” the Times reported.

Meanwhile, TMZ reported on Monday that McConnell’s daughter, Porter McConnell, had deactivated her X account. The younger McConnell, who has traditionally been critical of her father’s politics, has gone silent of late.

Also on Monday, the pro-Trump social media poster Laura Loomer claimed on X, citing a “source close to the White House,” that “Mitch McConnell is officially brain dead. He’s not coming back.” Loomer is both someone with limited credibility and a longtime critic of McConnell, although her comments were shared extensively, and one Capitol Hill correspondent reported hearing the same thing.

President Donald Trump has had his issues with McConnell over the years, even as they were on the same side of most legislative questions during Trump’s first term, especially the three successful Supreme Court confirmations. The two men, however, were all but sworn enemies by the end of that first term. Trump does not appear to have weighed in yet on McConnell’s health struggles.
