Kamala Harris has not appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast and likely won’t before the election, although Donald Trump has, and now his running mate J.D. Vance has as well. And on the appearance, Vance made some bizarre comments about gay and trans people, which to him being laughed at on CNN.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if me and Trump won, just the normal gay guy vote,” Vance said on Rogan’s show. “Because again, they just want to be left the hell alone, and now you have just this crazy stuff on top of it, that they’re like, ‘No, no, we didn’t want to give pharmaceutical products to 9-year-olds who are transitioning their genders.’”
He later tried to tie it to college admissions anxieties.
“If you are a middle-class or upper-middle class white parent, and the only thing that you care about is whether your child goes into Harvard or Yale, obviously that pathway has become a lot harder for a lot of upper-middle class kids,” Vance told Rogan, per an NBC News transcript. “But the one way that those people can participate in the DEI bureaucracy in this country is to be trans, and is there a dynamic that’s going on where, if you become trans, that is the way to reject your white privilege?”

CNN reacted someone incredulously to these comments.
“Not the way you want to be closing a campaign.” JD Vance talks about “the normal gay guy vote” and claims kids are transitioning gender to get into Harvard and Yale. Anderson Cooper and his panel openly laugh at him. (Video: CNN) pic.twitter.com/KYxWN2Bj1M

“The idea that people are having surgery in order to get into these colleges – I mean I know parents will go really far to get the kid into a good school,” Anderson Cooper said in reaction,” adding that he’s glad to learn that “J.D. Vance thinks there are normal gay people.”
Cooper went on to wonder “where the line is between a normal gay person and a not-normal gay person. I’m assuming I can guess what it is, like you know, anything related to drag, I guess you know that drag wearing as much makeup as Donald Trump wears, that would be considered not normal – it’s fine for Donald Trump – but on a gay guy that wouldn’t be considered normal.”
David Axelrod, meanwhile, wondered if this is a wise way to close out the presidential campaign.
