Donald Trump’s request in a July 25 phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden — and subsequent comments to reporters that China should also investigate the Bidens — have left Republicans scrambling to answer whether it’s acceptable to do that. It is not acceptable, though. South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was posed that very question during a panel discussion and he seems to think it’s OK for an American president to ask for campaign help from a foreign government.
“Is it ever okay for an American president to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political rival?” Graham was asked.
“Yeah, I think it’s okay to talk about this kind of stuff,” he said.

In less than 5 months we’ve gone from “It was a perfect phone call. No quid pro quo!” to “It’s okay to talk about this kind of stuff.” That’s a dangerous road to go down. Graham has already made up his mind saying that he is “not trying to pretend to be a fair juror.” That’s probably why Graham dismissed Trump’s “Russia, if you’re listening” open call for foreign interference in the 2016 election.
As Conservative Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin noted in a column on Sunday, “Amidst his boot-licking and willful ignorance of a “quid pro quo,” Graham left little doubt that he had the slightest intention of doing his job as a juror.”
“Refusing to hold the president accountable for betrayal of our national security and democratic elections (and refusing even to investigate the same) does not sound like the conduct of someone who takes that oath seriously, either,” Rubin continued.
“And for all his suckuppery to Trump, Graham is only two points ahead in the latest polling against Democratic challenger Jamie Harrison,” she added. “Maybe South Carolinians would like a senator they need not be embarrassed to represent them.”
A recent poll’s results aren’t good news for Graham, as Rubin noted. And his favorability rating in the red state is just awful. If this is the hill Graham wants to die on, so be it. As for Graham’s allegations on Hunter Biden, that’s never been proven. Hunter Biden was cleared of any wrongdoing. Graham is at the point where he’s just talking shit.
