The Freedom 250 concert series, for which Donald Trump assembled a lineup of past-their-prime acts from the 1980s and ’90s who swiftly began canceling, was supposed to begin on Thursday night. Instead, the president scheduled a rally in Washington on Thursday night.

According to the AP, the president “formally kicked off celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary on Wednesday night by working to get the country excited again — about himself.” The event featured country music singer Lee Greenwood, military plane flyovers, and, of course, a speech by Trump himself.

“There has never been anything like the United States of America, and together we are making it bigger and better and stronger and far more exceptional than ever before,” the president said. He went on to tout his own immigration policies.

“The American Dream is alive again. It’s something that nobody thought they’d be saying when you went through that last four years of incompetence,” he went on to say.

However, as noted in a video released by Bulwark, a fairly large number of members of the crowd began leaving before the event was over, and Trump was still speaking:
