Trump Claimed “Some” Of The Capitol Rioters Were “Hugging And Kissing Police”

Former President Donald Trump told Fox News’s  Laura Ingraham that his supporters involved in the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol posed “zero threat.” Trump claimed that the rioters were “hugging and kissing the police” even though one police officer was killed in the attack, and 140 others suffered injuries. One police officer suffered from two cracked ribs and two smashed spinal discs, and another was stabbed with a metal fence stake. And since the attack, 38 Capitol Police employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

The former president bizarrely claimed that his supporters who were arrested were being “persecuted” for their involvement in the attack at the Capitol. Trump did admit that the rioters “shouldn’t have done it,” but then he lashed out at ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter protesters. Of course, he did.

“It was zero threat. Right from the start, it was zero threat,” Trump said. “Look, they went in; they shouldn’t have done it. Some of them went in, and they’re hugging and kissing the police and the guards, you know, they had great relationships.”

“A lot of the people were waved in, and they walked in, and they walked out,” Trump said, “And I’ll tell you what, they are doing things to those — they’re persecuting a lot of those people.”

Watch:

“They go after people that, I guess you’d call them ‘lean toward the right,’ and they wave American flags,” Trump said, according to Yahoo News, “in many cases, they are waving the American flag, and they love our country. And to those people, they’re arresting them by the dozens.”

About those flags:

One MAGA rioter was caught on video beating a police officer with a stick with the American flag on the other end. Another video shows an officer getting dragged and pulled down the steps where he appeared to get stomped on and hit with a flag pole — but Trump thinks if they waved the American flag, they’re OK. That’s some real gaslighting from the former president.  I suppose Trump probably thinks his supporters were chanting, “Hug Mike Pence” on Jan. 6 as they tried to hunt him down with a gallows erected just outside of the Capitol.
