Instead of dealing with the surge of COVID-19 in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis has been trying to start a slap-fight with the White House. The Sunshine State is suffering from a record-breaking number of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, and it is now the nation’s new virus epicenter. DeSantis has resisted shutting down his state, and the Florida Republican issued an executive order that would cut off funding to schools that implemented mask mandates.
A reporter asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki about DeSantis’s threat to cut off funding for schools, and she did not hold back. And, of course, Psaki did it with grace.
“As a parent myself of two young children, I want public health officials to make decisions about how to keep my kids safe, not politicians, and not only is Governor DeSantis not abiding by public health decisions, he’s fundraising off of this,” Psaki said.

A reporter with OAN brought up DeSantis, too.

Indeed, DeSantis’ campaign website features drink koozies and shirts stamped with the slogan, “Don’t Fauci My Florida,” as well as flags that bear a resemblance to former President Donald Trump, saying, “Keep Florida Free.” And for the life of me, I can’t figure out why our nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has become a punching bag for Republicans. We’re in the middle of a pandemic, but Republicans want to disregard science for some bullshit reason.
And now, for DeSantis’s next trick, the Florida governor said that he doesn’t support hospitals requiring their staff members to get vaccinated. That’s a sick move considering that COVID has killed over 600,000 Americans, and it is ravaging his state. And so it seems that the Republican party has become pro-death and pro-disease. But I’m glad Psaki called DeSantis on his bullshit.
