And so it begins.
This afternoon, this country went through what will go down in history as one of the worst shootings we have ever seen.
The suspect, who has since been identified as 18-year-old Uvalde High School student, Salvador Ramos, opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas — where he killed 14 innocent children and 1 teacher.
Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott stated that the suspect also shot his grandmother before entering the elementary school. Abbott stated that the shooter was in possession of a handgun and possibly a rifle. The TX governor confirmed in his statement that Ramos was shot dead, presumably by law enforcement agents.

“He shot and killed horrifically and incomprehensibly 14 students and killed a teacher,” Abbott said while speaking during an unrelated press conference.
“When parents drop their kids off at school, they have every expectation to know that they’re going to be able to pick their child up when that school day ends. And there are families who are in mourning right now. The state of Texas is in mourning with them for the reality that these parents are not going to be able to pick up their children.”
At the end of the day today, the parents of 14 children will be forced to go home without their kids. Their lives have forever been altered, turned upside down, and destroyed beyond repair.
And yet we still have people like Marjorie Taylor Greene sending out tweets like this.
In the wake of the catastrophic massacre, the controversial GA Republican House Rep. took to Twitter to essentially blame the whole ordeal on mental health issues in the US, even seeming to go so far as to suggest that medication plays a role in it.
“Our nation needs to take a serious look at the state of mental health today. Sometimes meds can be the problem,” Greene wrote in her social media post. “America is failing our youngest generations from decades of rejecting good moral values and teachings. We don’t need more gun control. We need to return to God.”

CBS News Congressional Correspondent Scott MacFarlane posted a statement from Connecticut Democratic Senator Chris Murphy and, frankly, I’ll let it speak for itself:
Spare me the bullshit about mental illness. We don’t have any more mental illness than any other country in the world. You cannot explain this through a prism of mental illness because we don’t – we’re not an outlier on mental illness.”
This country does not need to “return to God,” nor do we need even more stigma surrounding mental health. We have a gun violence epidemic in this nation, and the answer is gun control. Period. The end.
