Admiral William McRaven, the man who oversaw the Navy SEAL operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, spoke out this week in response to President Donald Trump’s assault on the intelligence community, warning that his ego threatens our national security.
Trump’s ego has been in overdrive since Senate Republicans acquitted him earlier this month. His obsession with revenge reached fever pitch over the last week regarding his interference with the Justice Department to help his buddy Roger Stone. And now Trump has targeted the intelligence community by installing a loyal crony to replace former Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, whom Trump fired this week for briefing Congress on Russian meddling in the 2020 election.
It should also be pointed out that Maguire also testified against Trump during the House impeachment hearings.
Trump’s campaign of retaliation to satiate his own ego has thrust our government into chaos with no end in sight.

McRaven, a decorated Naval officer with an impeccable record of service, is now warning the country that Trump’s ego is a major threat to national security that could result in evil prevailing.
“Maguire didn’t seek to fill the job; he was asked to do it by the president,” McRaven wrote. “At first he declined, suggesting that Sue Gordon, Coats’s deputy, would be better suited for the job. But the president chose Maguire. And, like most of these good men and women, he came in with the intent to do his very best, to follow the rules, to follow the law and to follow what was morally right.”
“Joe was dismissed for doing his job: overseeing the dissemination of intelligence to elected officials who needed that information to do their jobs,” McRaven continued. “As Americans, we should be frightened—deeply afraid for the future of the nation. When good men and women can’t speak the truth, when facts are inconvenient, when integrity and character no longer matter, when presidential ego and self-preservation are more important than national security—then there is nothing left to stop the triumph of evil.”
As more and more honorable government officials are forced out by Trump, he replaces them with lackeys who will look the other way just as Senate Republicans did when they acquitted him. His ego is now bursting at the seams and he believes he can do whatever he wants because Senate Republicans will never stand up to his corruption. It is now infecting the DOJ and threatens to unravel an intelligence apparatus charged with keeping America safe. And a country without proper justice and national security cannot possibly survive.
