Arena In South Dakota Held A “Dash For Cash” Event Where Teachers Got On Their Knees And Scrambled For Dollar Bills In Front Of Cheering Audience To Buy Classroom Supplies

Videos are circulating showing South Dakota teachers scrambling to snatch as many dollar bills as possible in a “Dash for Cash” event for funding the classroom in what looks like a dystopian nightmare. The clips we’re going to include here would be a great ad to support teachers and raise their salaries because, as of 2021, South Dakota ranks one of the lowest in the nation for teacher pay.

According to the Angus Leader, this was the first-ever Dash for Cash event to pit ten Sioux Falls area teachers against each other to grab as many single-dollar bills as possible in less than five minutes with the money going toward either their classroom or school.

CU Mortgage Direct donated the money for this real-life Hunger Games event.

“With everything that has gone on for the last couple of years with teachers and everything, we thought it was an awesome group thing to do for the teachers,” Ryan Knudson, Director of Business Development and Marketing for CU Mortgage Direct, told the outlet. “The teachers in this area, and any teacher, they deserve whatever the heck they get.”

A teacher who managed to grab $616, Barry Longden, told the outlet that he was planning to use the money to help buy equipment for his school’s 30-member e-sports club.

“I’ve been throwing my name in the hat everywhere I can find so that way I can get opportunities to get money for the kids,” he said.

Well, it’s certainly depressing to watch hard-working teachers crawl across a mat to get funding to teach our children while the audience cheers them on in the background. And yet, Republicans find the idea of wealthy people paying their fair share in taxes repulsive.
