Donald Trump made a big mistake at his recent rally in Pennsylvania. He played a video to criticize Kamala Harris, claiming she would raise taxes for the middle class. But, ironically, the video showed the opposite!
During his speech, Trump said, “She’s the taxing queen. She’s going to raise your taxes, where you’re going to be at least paying at least three thousand dollars a year more. Take a look.” But when people looked at the video behind him, they saw clips of Harris talking about getting rid of the corporate tax cuts that Trump put in place during his presidency. Harris was clearly talking about corporate taxes, not taxes on middle-class families.
Originally, Trump’s team claimed that their corporate tax cuts would help middle-class families earn an extra $4,000 a year. But this was just not true. According to the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities, workers earning under $114,000 saw no increase in their income from these tax cuts. Instead, the wealthy benefited the most.
Harris wants to raise the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%. She has a plan to lower housing costs, funded by changes to estate taxes and increasing the corporate tax rate. However, she has not detailed how she plans to increase estate tax revenue. In fact, only about 0.2% of U.S. adults pay estate tax at all!

In the video, Harris also talked about a tax on unrealized capital gains, which would only affect people with a net worth of more than $100 million. That’s less than 1% of taxpayers! Trump conveniently left out this important detail.
Additionally, the video included clips of Harris discussing a carbon tax to penalize big polluters. While this could lead to higher energy costs for some, it is not aimed at the middle class. So, while Trump was trying to attack Harris, he ended up highlighting her plans that would not hurt everyday Americans.
Trump tried to confuse people about Harris’s tax policies, but it didn’t work. Instead of making his case, he revealed problems with his own tax claims. The rally showed that he didn’t really understand Harris’s plans and how they are different from his own.
As Trump continues to mislead his supporters, it’s clear that his approach to taxes is full of contradictions. This moment at the rally is just one example of how he changes reality to fit his story. As more people call him out on these lies, it raises questions about his leadership. Voters want a leader who tells the truth. With so many false statements, can Trump really connect with the American people?
