Top news anchors, and social media users, have been calling for Donald Trump‘s daily MAGA rallies COVID-19 briefings to stop showing the president live on television. Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes at MSNBC, and Don Lemon at CNN, have had it and called for their networks to stop televising the daily press conferences due to the amount of misinformation and propaganda that is broadcast straight from the president’s mouth.
CNN head Jeff Zucker defended not cutting away from Trump’s briefings, saying that he intends for the network to continue covering the briefings.
“We might take it from the top and then cut away after the first lie, and return when the lies stop,” one cable-network producer told The Daily Beast on Monday.
So, as we do here at the Political Tribune, we’re all watching the briefing today. While I watched it live on YouTube — because fuck his ratings — I also had CNN tuned in. As the president heaped praise upon himself about the economy — even though unemployment numbers are expected to hit a staggering thirty-two percent — Dr. Sanjay Gupta was speaking on CNN. The network did not air the bloviating president’s briefing until Dr. Birx took over the podium.

I’m not the only one that noticed.
Thank you @cnn! Finally someone does the responsible thing & doesn’t air the daily campaign rally! If you think @realDonaldTrump is lying & that’s dangerous, have the decency to stand up! Kudos, CNN!

So glad you guys at CNN decided not to air the President’s afternoon rant. Great move! He doesn’t get to chop up reporters for sport at a trying time when American people want just the facts.

We understand the importance of seeing a sitting president at the podium during a national crisis. Still, the lies and downplaying of the massive coronavirus outbreak are exhausting the country’s panicked population. What we need to watch at this point is our governors, not the president flapping his gums while spewing out falsehoods. We need to hear from experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci. We need facts, not bluster.
