Democrats Shatter Donation Records Hours After News Of RBG’s Passing Hits

We're coming for you, Mitch.

The United States is deep in mourning over the tragic loss of women’s rights icon and treasure, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who passed away last night after a long battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Justice Ginsburg dedicated her life to making ours easier, more bearable, and fair and we will never be able to express our gratitude for her service and dedication enough.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that we’re trying to.

RBG’s dying wish was dictated to her grandaughter in her final days, with Justice Ginsburg saying, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

As we expected, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Donald Trump, as well as throngs of other GOPers in Congress, have already made their intentions surrounding Justice Ginsburg’s now vacant seat crystal clear — not only in spite of RBG’s dying wish but also in spite of their own precedent, that Mitch McConnell set when he refused to even entertain the idea of Obama’s Supreme Court nominee during an election year. All before Ginsburg’s family even had a chance to mourn this tragic loss.

However, the American public isn’t having it. We will fight back. And we’re doing so by making sure Democrats have every chance at beating these souless, cruel Republicans.

In the moments and hours after Justice Ginsburg’s death, Democratic donors donated en masse on ActBlue, a donation-processing site launched 16 years ago, ultimately shattering the donation platform’s record.

According to a report from the New York Times, the platform’s record was first shattered at 9pm with a staggering $6.2 million in donations, only to be shattered once more an hour later, with an additional $6.3 million donated — over $100,000 in contributions per minute.

The platform’s previous record was set at $4.3 million in donations on August 20th, the last night of the Democratic National Convention, when Joe Biden accepted the Democratic nomination.

We knew what was coming in the wake of Justice Ginsburg’s heartbreaking passing. However, I don’t know if Republicans were quite prepared for this outpouring. Let this serve as their warning — we will not take this lying down.
