Ex-DOJ Lawyer Admits Her Deep Regret Working For Donald Trump: “We Were Complicit”

People are breaking their silence.

Now that Donald Trump and all the deceit and corruption that comes with him is on his way out the door, the people who have jockeyed for him, built him up, participated in his numerous schemes, or just remained complicit during all this time are seemingly beginning to see the error in their ways.

One former Department of Justice attorney is now breaking her silence, revealing her regret regarding her decision to work for now-outgoing President Donald Trump — ultimately saying she feels she could have better served this country by just quitting the moment he took office.

Penning a piece in the New York Times, former Office of Legal Counsel attorney Erica Newland explained that she remained in her position at the Department of Justice upon Trump’s rise to power because she felt that she could use her position to help limit the damage he would wreak on this nation’s democracy. But in reality, Newland just found that the work she was doing only served to make some of Trump’s most heinous and disturbing stunts, such as the Muslim travel ban, more palatable to the courts.

In her article, Newland asserts that droves of talented attorneys within the DOJ should have resigned en masse as soon as Donald Trump took power in the United States, which would have ultimately forced Trump and his administration to rely on low-level lawyers such as Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell to defend their disgusting cases before the courts.

“If, early on, the Justice Department lawyers charged with selling the administration’s lies had emptied the ranks — withholding our talents and reputations and demanding the same of our professional peers — the work of defending President Trump’s policies would have been left to the types of attorneys now representing his campaign,” Newland penned. “Lawyers like Mr. Giuliani would have had to defend the Muslim ban in court.”

But, instead, Newland and attorneys like her stayed and only served to make the Trump administration’s cruel policies sound a little less terrible through their high-level skills as attorneys.

The former DOJ lawyer says that all she can do now is offer her sincerest apologies to the country for not doing more to put a stop to Donald Trump’s reign of terror on this nation and its people.

“No matter our intentions, we were complicit,” Newland wrote. “We collectively perpetuated an anti-democratic leader by conforming to his assault on reality. We may have been victims of the system, but we were also its instruments. No matter how much any one of us pushed back from within, we did so as members of a professional class of government lawyers who enabled an assault on our democracy — an assault that nearly ended it.”

I have a feeling it’s only a matter of time before Donald Trump’s facade full crumbles, and he’ll be nothing more than a disgraced washup wasting his days away in a Florida retirement community.
