Former Mueller Team Member Claims Manhattan Prosecutor Will Be Able To Get More Than Just Trump’s Tax Returns

Donald Trump is having a rough day after the Supreme Court declined a bid by the former president to shield his tax returns and other financial records from a New York grand jury subpoena. The justices issued the order and ended the long-running dispute between the former president and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. (D). Andrew Weissmann, the former senior prosecutor for special counsel Robert Mueller, explained just how bad this is for Trump.

Weissmann told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace that Vance, Jr. would get all financial documents from Trump’s accounting firm, Mazars USA.

“It will be the taxes and all accounting records,” he said. “It will be whatever the Mazars have, which should be a wealth of information, internal emails, communications with the Trump Organization, accounting spreadsheets, all sorts of notations as to how they’re valuing things. And mechanically what happens is the Manhattan D.A.’s office calls up and says, ‘Okay, now that this has been decided, you need to turn them over by X date.'”

And it sounds like it will happen fast.

“The Mazars can hardly say we haven’t had any notice,” he continued to say. “They have to have this all ready to go. And they literally can either send over a hard drive, or they can just sometimes press a button, and it, you know, millions of pages get produced to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. And I have been in that position, and you basically spend a lot of nights dividing things up and reviewing things because this is really, could be the actual key to whether you can or cannot make a case.”

Watch:

Trump vowed when he was on the campaign trail to release his taxes, but he never did once he got into office. There’s something there that he’s hiding. When the former president learned of the Supreme Court’s decision, he lashed out in true Trumpian fashion, calling it a witch hunt, and claimed that he’s being persecuted. We’re not sure why Trump doesn’t want to fulfill his own campaign promise, unless, of course, it was all an act, and he’s simply a conman who played his supporters for suckers.
