New presidents often enjoy a honeymoon period, during which they maintain some of the glow of their election victory and remain well-liked, at least for a few months.

That doesn’t seem to have happened in the early going of Donald Trump’s second term.

Fox News has released a poll near the 100-day mark of the second Trump Administration, and it shows that Trump’s job approval rating is at 44 percent. This is lower than any of the other recent presidents, with the previous low being Trump himself, in his first term, who was approved by 45 percent at the 100-day milestone.

Joe Biden had a 54 percent approval rating at this point, although his ratings declined soon after that.

The Fox poll also examined Trump’s popularity on various issues.

President Trump receives his best marks on border security, as a 55% majority approves. That’s the only issue where his ratings are in positive territory,” the Fox News write-up of the poll says. “On immigration, a record high of 47% approve of Trump (48% disapprove), while a new low of 38% approve on the economy (56% disapprove). His worst ratings are on inflation (33% approve, 59% disapprove), followed by tariffs (33-58%), foreign policy (40-54%), taxes (38-53%), and guns (41-44%).”

Things are also not great for Trump when it comes to attitudes about the country’s direction.

“Some 59% of voters are unhappy with how things are going in the country. That’s an improvement since the end of former President Biden’s term (68% dissatisfied), but worse than four years ago at the beginning of Biden’s term (53% dissatisfied). It’s also worse than the 100-day mark of Trump’s first term (53% dissatisfied),” the Fox poll said.

The RealClearPolling average, just before the 100-day mark, shows 51.6 percent disapproval of Trump, compared to 46.1 percent approval, representing the worst numbers to date of Trump’s second presidency.

The Fox poll shows a -11 approval spread for Trump, while a new Economist/YouGov poll, also released this week, showed the spread at -9. A poll from the reputationally pro-Republican Rasmussen Reports this week showed a +2 spread, although most other recent surveys show Trump underwater in the polls.
