Melania Trump has largely disappeared from the public limelight — save for a few, somewhat controversial appearances — ever since her husband’s humiliating fall from power back in 2020 and it’s safe to say that the speculations and theories regarding the “why” behind the former first lady’s secluded new lifestyle are plentiful.
Many political observers and even experts have weighed in to theorize that Melania is steering clear of the public due in large part to her husband’s incessant and ever-mounting legal scandals — most specifically, his impending hush money trial, in which Donald Trump has been criminally charged with making hush money payments to a porn star he had an extramarital affair with, just months after Melania had given birth to their only child. Others have opined that Melania is staying out of the public’s eye because she never had an interest in being in it in the first place and has no interest in returning on the coattails of her husband’s political ambitions.
But now, one source who allegedly has insider knowledge of the former first lady’s thoughts and feelings has spoken out about what may be the real driving force behind Melania Trump’s decision to shy away from the press.
Melania did, of course, recently lose her mother, Amalija Knavs, and has been rather focused on caring for her teen son through his final year of high school. But this inside source recently spoke with the Times and said Melania’s seclusion these days likely has a lot more to do with her experiences while she was still in the White House.

“When you look back, Melania was betrayed by her staff,” the source told the New York Times.
This seemed to be a thinly veiled point at Melania’s one-time chief of staff Stephanie Grisham and her former best friend and advisor Stephanie Winston Wolkoff — both of whom penned scathing personal tell-alls about their time with Melania Trump, leaving the now-former first lady feeling “burnt” by her time in Washington.
According to this insider, Melania’s “hurt” feelings are now dictating her personal and private life, with regard to the press and public appearances these days.
“She has dinner at Mar-a-Lago but doesn’t mingle and hobnob with people like he does. It’s a safe zone for him. She doesn’t view it as a safe zone,” the inside source explained of Donald Trump’s third and current wife.
They claim that Melania doesn’t feel like she got the same gold-star treatment as first ladies who came before her when she descended to the White House with her husband.
“She tried but was attacked — everything, her shoes, her hair,” the source explained to the Times. “The microscope is so intense. The sunglasses she wears all the time are her shield.”
Of course, the prime example of this, from Melania’s vantage point, was the infamous Vogue Magazine snub — one of the things she allegedly desired the most from her tenure as First Lady of the United States.
Melania was featured on the cover of the world-renowned fashion magazine in her wedding dress back in 2005, but when she found herself in the White House, she was not afforded the same First Lady cover that was given to Michelle Obama before her and Jill Biden after her.
Speaking on Fox Nation about the back in 2022, Melania griped, “They’re biased and they have likes and dislikes, and it’s so obvious. And I think American people, and everyone sees it. It was their decision, and I have much more important things to do — and I did in the White House — than being on the cover of Vogue.”
It seems Melania just has her feelings hurt in a bad kind of way.
