Not exactly great timing

Ivanka Trump has largely stayed out of the public eye during her father’s second term, skipping events and maintaining a lower profile than in the first.

On Tuesday, she made a rare appearance at the White House state dinner for King Charles, wore a sky-blue Reem Acra gown and posted about her magical night.

The state dinner on April 28 was the first formal white-tie event at the White House since President George W. Bush hosted Queen Elizabeth II in 2007. Ivanka attended alongside her husband Jared Kushner, with Eric Trump, Lara Trump and Tiffany also in attendance. Barron and Don Jr. were notably absent, as was Karoline Leavitt.

The guest list included Apple CEO Tim Cook, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Fox News hosts and every conservative Supreme Court justice.

Ivanka posted photographs of her gown from multiple angles and captioned it: “Behind the scenes 📸’s of a magical night!”

Replies followed almost immediately, and not all were favorable.

One critic responded with a photo of gas prices at a Speedway station and the words: “It’s magical for us too…”

Another addressed Ivanka with a pointed remark before expanding further:

“How does it feel to look this glamorous while you and your family are devastating the citizens of America?”

The comment then widened in scope:

“We cannot afford healthy food, nice clothes, hair salon or even a nice apartment with how much money is being transferred to the elites, especially your family!!!”

Several commenters referenced forgoing healthcare to afford food, falling behind on rent and watching costs climb every week while the family responsible for the policies celebrated at white-tie dinners. “It’s vulgar to flaunt your privilege when your demented dad’s policies are bringing economic hardship to real people,” one person wrote.

Another went even further: “You aren’t royalty. You never will be. Get over yourself. You are the daughter of a grifter and married one. You’ve even done your own grifting. One day soon, you will all face the consequences.”

Ivanka’s appearance marked her first political event since the State of the Union in February. She was absent from the premiere of Melania’s documentary in January, while Melania skipped Don Jr.’s fiancée Bettina Anderson’s bridal shower in April, which Ivanka attended alongside Lara and Tiffany.
