Flexing in a squeeze

Karoline Leavitt welcomed her daughter Viviana just weeks ago and was back at the White House podium defending the administration’s economic record almost immediately after.

On Sunday, she posted her Mother’s Day to Instagram. The snuggles with the newborn were sweet. The Louis Vuitton box in the background is what three million followers immediately locked onto.

The third of three Instagram Stories is where it all came into focus. Leavitt held a handwritten card reading “Happy Mother’s Day! Niko & Vivi” while an unmistakable orange Louis Vuitton box sat clearly behind her. She captioned it with a white heart and a pleading face emoji.

From there, the verdict came quickly and largely in one direction.

Attention also drifted back to an earlier post marking Viviana’s arrival. In that announcement, a $3,000 Hermès throw blanket was visible draped over a nursery chair. “That and the $3,000 Hermes throw blanket she flexed in her nursery,” one user wrote.

The Hermès blanket and the Louis Vuitton box have now effectively become a matched set in the online conversation around her posts.

There is also a layer of irony that has not gone unnoticed. Louis Vuitton is a French luxury brand under LVMH. When Donald Trump imposed a 15% baseline tariff on EU goods, LVMH raised prices on some US products, including popular handbags, to absorb the cost. In other words, a brand tied to Europe’s luxury market became even more expensive in the US under the same trade policies the administration has promoted as economic protection.

That detail becomes more noticeable given how often the brand appears around Leavitt’s public posts.

Last August, a White House staff birthday celebration for her was captured on video, with an orange Louis Vuitton bag visible among the gifts. The orange packaging is now a recurring visual thread rather than a one-off appearance.
