Kushner Apparently Still Demanding Rent From Tenants While Begging Creditors For A Break For Himself

It's all about the money and always has been.

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner wants his rent money from the tenants in the buildings he owns, all while he begs his creditors for a break.

The coronavirus pandemic has upended the lives of millions of Americans across the country. Millions are out of work and isolating themselves to keep from getting or spreading the virus. That means little money is coming in to pay for things like rent. Many landlords have chosen to suspend rent payments during this tough time out of compassion and understanding.

But Kushner has no such compassion and understanding. He only wants the money his renters owe, and he wants it now — or else.

In particular, he wants it from tenants in Maryland, which is why a company owned by Kushner Companies sent multiple messages to tens of thousands of tenants informing them that they still must pay their rent in full and on time despite the hardship caused by the pandemic he and his father-in-law made worse by their failed response.

According to Mother Jones:

On Thursday, March 19, Westminster Management—which is owned by the Kushner Companies and boasts of holding more than 20,000 apartments across six states—sent residents in at least one property a notice about rent collection—but it wasn’t about giving them a break on rent, nor did it include any reference to the unfolding COVID-19 crisis, according to emails and other correspondence reviewed by Mother Jones.

Two days later, on March 21, the company sent another email to residents. While it acknowledged the global pandemic by saying the company hoped ‘you all stay safe and healthy in these challenging times,’ it went on to tell tenants to sign up for the new payment platform ‘asap.’

On Wednesday, March 25, the company again reminded tenants of the new rent-payment platform, this time via paper notices slipped under apartment doors. The messages had no mention of any rent breaks or a willingness to work with tenants facing financial hardship due to the coronavirus.”

This is the definition of harassment by a slumlord who has no empathy for people and only feels greed.

During an interview on MSNBC, Joy Reid asked reporter David Fahrenthold for insight on the rent demands, and he revealed a stunning hypocrisy.

“Rather than relax the rent requirements for his tenants, and some of his tenants are in tough positions, in Maryland and other places, that they are enforcing to the maximum that they want their money. What about his income? A lot of it does come from being not the best landlord,” Reid said.

“I’m not the world’s expert on Jared Kushner, but I have read that,” Fahrenthold replied. “At the same time, the Kushner Company is asking for leniency from its lenders — there’s a retail space in Times Square that I’ve read they’re having trouble making the payments on. So they’re forcing others to make payments while trying to get out of it themselves.”

Indeed, Kushner is literally begging his creditors to give him a break on paying his own bills even as he demands his tenants pay their own. And it’s because one of his properties is going under, which is a reason why Kushner is desperately pushing Trump to send Americans back to work. It’s all about the money and always has been this whole time.

The Daily Beast reports:

[T]he paralysis of commerce caused by the pandemic may force Kushner Companies’ Times Square retail space into default. The next day President Trump tamped down the medical community’s insistence on social distancing in favor of restarting the economy on an arbitrary, accelerated timeline. Kushner, who initially advised the president that the media was exaggerating the threat of the virus, is serving as a liaison between the administration and business leaders, a number of whom have agitated for a hasty return to the workplace.”

Kushner and his family can afford to pay their bills. Many Americans cannot and should be given breaks during this crisis.

If he doesn’t have the compassion to help his own tenants out during this pandemic, his creditors have zero reason to give him any either. Kushner should be ashamed of himself, and his wife Ivanka Trump should be ashamed of him, too, since she claims to care about the plight of American families.
