Late John McCain Reportedly Had Blistering Reason For Not Being Bothered By Donald Trump’s Incessant Nasty Attacks Against Him

He wasn't wrong.

Former President Donald Trump’s attacks against Sen. John McCain, lasted for years and carried on even after the Arizona Republican’s death. In 2015, McCain responded to Trump in a piece in The New Yorker, saying that Trump “fired up the crazies,” and the former reality show star responded by calling McCain a “dummy.” Trump’s attacks didn’t stop when McCain died, unfortunately. And while on the campaign trail, Trump mocked McCain for having been a prisoner of war. That should have been seen as a warning shot to not vote for a shallow, narcissistic rage machine, but Trump supporters overlooked his many flaws.

According to Yahoo News, Grant Woods, a former chief of staff to McCain, told progressive PAC MeidasTouch’s podcast this week that Trump didn’t get under the late Senator’s skin.

“It did not bother him a bit because he had such little respect — he had no respect for Donald Trump anyway,” said Woods, a former GOP Arizona attorney general who became a Democrat in 2018.

McCain thought Trump was “an asshole,” but he didn’t spend time being bothered about his comments.

“McCain really didn’t spend hardly any time thinking about Trump or worrying about Trump or any of that,” Woods said. “He called it as he saw it, and he thought Trump was an asshole, and he thought he was an idiot. And if he spent any time on it, it was in trying not to say that publicly as much as he thought it.”

Woods said that McCain was not fazed by Trump’s remarks.

“It did not bother him a bit. I mean, not a bit,” he said. “He wasn’t, like, pissed for five seconds and then got over.”

Woods said that McCain, later on, became bothered by Trump’s attacks on his war record after talking with his friends that were prisoners of war.

“It’s one thing for John McCain, where he was, to go, ‘Yeah, who cares.’ But for these guys, their identity, their life was wrapped up in being a POW,” he added. “So to then have someone nationally say, ‘Hey, you’re not a hero, that’s all bogus.’ That wasn’t right to put an 80-year-old guy through that at that point in time because they are heroes, and I’d never heard anyone say differently.”
