J.D. Vance, throughout the presidential campaign, gave a lot of interviews, including to mainstream, not specifically conservative outlets. And now, for his first interview as vice president, Vance will sit with CBS News, for an interview on CBS This Morning to air on Sunday.

Margaret Brennan, who was the moderator for the vice presidential debate in the fall, will conduct the interview.

According to HuffPost, there’s some anger from the MAGA base about Vance agreeing to the interview with a mainstream media outlet.

Of course, both Trump and Vance have preferred to engage with and sometimes argue with the mainstream media, rather than duck them- while also hoping to come up with a “viral” media clip, sometimes of the candidate or official arguing with the interviewer.

Vance and Brennan had clashed during the vice presidential debate, and probably the most viral moment of the debate was when Brennan noted that many Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, have temporary protected status, and in accordance witih their fact-checking procedures, CBS cut off Vance’s microphone for a few seconds when he protested.

“Since you’re fact checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on,” Vance said at the time, before explaining the CBP One app. That app has since been disconnected, with its website stating that “effective January 20, 2025, the functionalities of CBP One that previously allowed undocumented aliens to submit advance information and schedule appointments at eight southwest border ports of entry is no longer available, and existing appointments have been cancelled.”
