The United States is in a state of disunity right now, and Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell isn’t helping the matter by targeting Democratic-run states amid the novel coronavirus pandemic that has seized our country’s economy. The Kentucky Republican’s latest comments infuriated elected officials from both sides of the aisle. GOP lawmaker Pete King, who represents Long Island, on Wednesday described McConnell as the “Marie Antoinette of the Senate” after the majority leader suggested struggling states go bankrupt amid the pandemic.
McConnell was interviewed on a radio talk show and claimed that governors “would love to have free money.” McConnell is specifically targeting blue states, of course. McConnell’s office released a transcript of the interview with Hugh Hewitt in which his comments about bailouts were placed under a subhead reading “On Stopping Blue State Bailouts,” according to the Daily News.
“I would certainly be in favor of allowing states to use the bankruptcy route,” McConnell told Hewitt, adding later in the interview, “There’s not going to be any desire on the Republican side to bail out state pensions by borrowing money from future generations.”
That’s rich coming from the wealthy Kentucky Republican who took no issues with his president adding to the growing deficit, and McConnell’s party was happy to pass a hefty tax cut for the rich that will add $1.9 trillion to deficits over the next ten years. But now that Americans are hurting financially, McConnell is telling Democratic states to go bankrupt.
Gov. Cuomo has pleaded for a federal bailout for weeks and says New York could suffer a $15 billion revenue shortfall because of the pandemic, with businesses shuttered and hundreds of thousands of Empire State residents forced into unemployment.”

Cuomo called out McConnell over his remarks.
“That is one of the saddest, really dumb comments of all time,” the governor said. “OK, let’s have all the states declare bankruptcy … That’s how you want to reopen by bankrupting the states? I mean, it’s just a really dumb statement.”
New York Rep. Max Rose fumed over McConnell’s suggestion, saying, “The only type of person who would do or say something like this is a piece of human trash.”
Oh, but McConnell has always been human trash. This is nothing new, and amid the pandemic, McConnell paints a perfect picture of what not to be in life.
Needless to say, McConnell isn’t be heralded as a paragon of virtue.
Thanks to Mitch McConnell for telling New Yorkers & other American citizens in ‘blue’ states to drop dead from coronavirus. Isn’t it good to know that if you’re not in a ‘red’ state, then the GOP thinks you’re valueless. Maybe then, we dont need to send the feds our taxes. https://t.co/cVoIGOLE8g

Bitter, failed pol, Majority Leader McConnell figures the only way to make the history books is to burn the place to the ground as he exits. He sold out his country. He betrayed his oath. This dried rind of a human being can’t be despensed with soon enough.

Those blue states like NY, NJ, CA, WA that provide tax dollars that keep states like KY going…we go bankrupt- it will hit KY and other red states first.

In 1975, Republican President Gerald Ford told New York City to drop dead, and like McConnell, he suggested the city go bankrupt. Wash, rinse, repeat.
