In new video footage of the Congressional Gold Medal award ceremony that took place today, it appears as though Kentucky Republican Senator and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was brutally snubbed by the family of a fallen officer during the event meant to honor the law enforcement officials who guarded, defended, and protected the nation’s Capitol with their lives during the violent, deadly January 6th insurrection incited in Donald Trump’s name.
According to breaking new reporting from The Daily Mail:
Members of the Capitol Police and DC Metropolitan Police Department gathered in the US Capitol rotunda to honor the law enforcement officers who fended off a mob of Donald Trump’s supporters who wanted the 2020 election overturned.
Standing to accept the award on behalf of the police were Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger and DC Police Chief Robert Contee III, as well as members of fallen officer Brian Sicknick’s family.”
Brian Sicknick was the Capitol officer who ultimately succumbed to multiple strokes just one day after he vehemently defended the nation’s Capitol building against the attack from the mob of rabid Trump supporters.
At one point in the event, it came time for Sicknick’s family to present the medal, during which the fallen officer’s family warmly greeted Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, with Sicknick’s mother even giving the New York Democrat a heartfelt kiss on his cheek.

However, when it came time for them to confront the Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who was standing right next to Schumer during the presentation, the KY lawmaker appeared to extend his hand to the family for a handshake, which was not reciprocated by Sicknick’s family, but rather apparently ignored.
House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy was standing to the right of McConnell and seemed to know better than to even try, as he kept his hands firmly planted around the medal box he was holding. Video appears to show that Sicknick’s family did not even attempt to shake McCarthy’s hand or greet him in any way.
