Mitch McConnell Could Be In Danger Of Losing Senate Race After More Small Donors Throw Cash At His Opponent

Buh-bye, Mitch.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s sole concern amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused a tearful nation to shutter from the outside world to flatten the coronavirus curve has been to boost conservative judges — some of them are wholly unqualified, however. But propping up judges is Sen. McConnell’s thing, not his constituents in the beautiful state of Kentucky. In 2010, McConnell had a different priority, and said, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

Kentuckians are growing wary of McConnell, apparently, since his Democratic opponent is kicking his turtle shit ass with donations, according to Open Secrets.

A whole lot of money is pouring into the state to retire the Kentucky Republican, and to support former Marine Amy McGrath. The staggering numbers should terrify McConnell as it appears the country is ready to put his useless partisan ass to pasture.

McGrath outraised McConnell in the first quarter of this year, reporting she received $12.8 million while the Republican incumbent raised $7.8 million. She now edges out McConnell in total fundraising, bringing in nearly $30 million to his $25.6 million. The Senate majority leader is projected to win the seat but by a narrow margin, according to polling data analyzed by FiveThirtyEight.

McGrath is reportedly garnering small donations from both in and outside of Kentucky, making up 63 percent of her fundraising total through the end of 2019. Mitch’s opponent’s donors make up just 16 percent of McConnell’s funds, that total nearly $2.8 million as he relies more on PACs and his colleagues’ campaign coffers.

“It’s a high profile race, McConnell is the second most powerful Republican and Democrats intensely dislike him,” said Raymond La Raja, a political science professor at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. “It is a national race that attracts small donors.”

The global pandemic that has brought this country to a standstill with unemployment numbers through the roof hasn’t seemed to faze McConnell for some reason. Americans are dying, and yet, McConnell and his colleagues — including Donald Trump — are putting the GOP’s agenda ahead of grieving families. Obamacare is looking pretty good during these dark times, but McConnell isn’t.
