If President Donald Trump actually cared about the victims of coronavirus and their families, you’d think he’d be able to muster more than 4.5 minutes of sympathy for them during his press briefings, but that’s apparently not the case.
As White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has pointed out, Trump has held over 45 such briefings since the end of February. So, he has been standing there behind the podium yapping for hours upon hours lying about his response to the pandemic and hyping disinfectants and anti-malarial drugs as treatments for the virus.
But one thing Trump has rarely done during his briefings, or on Twitter for that matter, is express sympathy and empathy for the victims. In fact, a new study shows that Trump has bragged about himself more than he has acknowledged the loss of over 54,000 American lives and the pain their families must feel.
According to the Washington Post:
The president has spoken for more than 28 hours in the 35 briefings held since March 16, eating up 60 percent of the time that officials spoke, according to a Washington Post analysis of annotated transcripts from Factba.se, a data analytics company.
Over the past three weeks, the tally comes to more than 13 hours of Trump — including two hours spent on attacks and 45 minutes praising himself and his administration, but just 4½ minutes expressing condolences for coronavirus victims. He spent twice as much time promoting an unproven antimalarial drug that was the object of a Food and Drug Administration warning Friday. Trump also said something false or misleading in nearly a quarter of his prepared comments or answers to questions, the analysis shows.”

Again, Trump doesn’t express sympathy or empathy to coronavirus victims on Twitter either. The only time he did that was just after the death of someone he knew.
And Trump will likely continue ignoring the pain and suffering of the American people as he pushes to reopen the country earlier than health experts recommend, a move that will result in a deadly second wave of the virus that will kill more people Trump won’t express any sympathy for as long as the stock market improves.
