Donald Trump has been accused of a wide variety of bad things over the years, including sexual assault and various crimes. But after all of that, his voters have stuck by him.
A new survey, published this week by Politico, shows that a majority of MAGA voters “would stick by a candidate through the most serious of scandals.”
“Americans are largely tolerant of scandals among politicians. But nobody is more willing to stick by an embattled candidate than a MAGA voter,” the Politico story says. MAGA voters are the most loyal, the report says, with “majorities saying they would stick by GOP candidates confronted with an array of scandals, from a DUI conviction or accepting lobbyist gifts to more serious accusations including domestic violence, sexual assault and antisemitic social media posts.”

Politico also reports that 72 percent of those who call themselves MAGA voters “say they would stick with a GOP candidate accused of domestic violence, more than 10 percentage points higher than the overall share of Trump 2024 voters who would back a GOP candidate (61 percent).” Only 39 percent of those who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 say they would continue to support a Democrat accused of domestic violence.
That very issue is in the news this weekend, with Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), facing domestic abuse allegations from his former wife, who is the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH). Miller, a former Trump White House aide who is running for re-election, released a video defending himself from the accusations.
Moreno, who had largely been silent about the accusations against his former son-in-law, came forward on Sunday, issuing a statement that “out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller’s increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible… If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives.”
