The list of departures from Donald Trump’s swampy administration is massive, and according to Politico, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney is about to go through that active revolving door outside the White House, too. A handful of aides told the news outlet that Mulvaney is expected to leave his role in the Trump administration after “the Senate wraps up its impeachment trial and the intense scrutiny of the West Wing settles down.”

Mulvaney has found himself with very little control over the White House staff and has been left out of major personnel and policy decisions, according to what the aides told Politico.

“He is there. I’ll leave it at that,” said a Republican when asked about Mulvaney’s status. “He’s like a kid. His role at the dinner table is to be seen and not heard.”

“Trump allies and White House aides, who have been nudging the president in recent weeks to find a new leader for the team as it delves into a crucial reelection campaign, have been circulating lists of potential replacements for weeks,” the report states.

“Just like his predecessors, Reince Priebus and Gen. John Kelly, he eventually lost juice inside the building, according to interviews with nine current and former senior administration officials and Republicans close to the White House,” Politico reports.

“While Mulvaney never took a traditional approach to the job and viewed his role based on the ‘let Trump be Trump’ approach, he still got tripped up in the position by a mercurial president and a White House staff that tends to operate like a group of independent contractors pursuing their own portfolios.”

This just happens to coincide with the news that Republican Rep. Mark Meadows — a staunch and vocal defender of Trump’s — is retiring from Congress, but he is open to working in the Trump administration.

The North Carolina Republican said his work “with President Trump and his administration is only beginning.”

After Trump offered a rambling diatribe on the White House lawn in which he admitted to taking part in a quid pro quo with Ukraine’s President, Mulvaney confirmed it during a bonkers interview that the White House had to walk back. Mulvaney also advised the “president” to shut down the government last year as leverage to land funding for Trump’s ego-wall on the Southern border. That, of course, backfired on Republicans.

The “best people,’ you guys.
