Republicans in the Senate on Friday rejected motions to call new witnesses in Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, thus paving the way for a final vote to acquit the “president” next week. Fifty-one Republican Senators, led by Mitch McConnell, shut down the Democratic effort to secure new witness testimony even with some in the GOP admitting that Trump dangled a quid pro quo over a foreign leader’s head to help the former reality show star’s chances of re-election.
Democrats were also defeated in bringing in former national security advisor John Bolton and other witnesses who have knowledge of the Ukraine scandal that kicked off Trump’s impeachment. Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell publicly took a shit all over the Constitution in what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described as a “cover-up.”

I’m old as fuck and yesterday was probably the darkest, most depressing day I’ve witnessed since I got involved in politics in what seems like eleventy bazillion years ago.
