It was recently confirmed that prosecutors in DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith’s document investigation have a list of high-level witnesses that the federal government believes will ultimately incriminate disgraced, scandal-ridden former President Donald Trump following his 37-count federal felony indictment on charges related to stealing and withholding classified government documents and materials and subsequently obstructing federal authorities’ investigation into the matter.
Now, a group of media organizations in the United States wants the identities of those individuals that will likely soon damn Donald Trump to a fate behind bars.
According to a bombshell new court filing, ABC News, The Associated Press, CBS News, The Wall Street Journal, and NBC News have banded together to demand some transparency as we get into the thick of the infamous classified document case.
The new court filing on behalf of American media organizations reads:
The filing of the list of potential witnesses in this case is a highly significant initial step in this extraordinary prosecution. It will mark the first time that the Court has instructed the Government to inform Trump of the identities of persons who may offer testimony that prosecutors believe will incriminate him.
At the same time, Trump’s counsel has made clear that many of these witnesses are long-time acquaintances and staffers, and he will now be forbidden, on pain of contempt, from discussing this case with them. If the public right to oversee judicial proceedings is to mean anything, it mandates that the public have full access to the judicial records of these proceedings, starting with this Court-ordered witness list.”
