Republican Senator Claims: “We’ve Gotta Reopen, And When We Do, The Coronavirus Is Gonna Spread Faster”

They really don't care.

In an interview on Fox News last night, Louisiana Republican Senator John Kennedy stated that reopening the country back up for business as usual will almost assuredly cause the life-threatening virus to spread at an even more alarming rate. But according to him, we just need to accept that.

Kennedy sat down for the interview with Fox News personality Tucker Carlson and was clear that he didn’t want to sugar coat things any longer when it comes to the impact reopening the economy will have on the deadly illness and its transmission rates.

“Every politician, myself included sometimes, is just dancing around the issue. The American people get it. We’ve gotta reopen, and when we do, the coronavirus is gonna spread faster,” the GOP Senator declared during the segment. “And we’ve gotta be ready for it.”

Kennedy went on to seemingly excuse his claims by “explaining” the impact that the nationwide shutdown will have on the US economy, warning that we could see a global economic collapse as a result of a shuttered country.

“We gotta open this economy. If we don’t, it’s gonna collapse,” he continued. “And if the US economy collapses, the world economy collapses. Trying to burn down the village to save it is foolish — that’s a cold hard truth.”

Kennedy lamented the fact that the nationwide shutdown didn’t stop the virus in its tracks, only slow its spread — despite the fact that that’s exactly what health officials were trying to accomplish. Flatten the curve.

Kennedy did go on to acknowledge that the country has to be “smart” when it comes to our plans to reopen the nation.

“Don’t open up in the middle of a hot-spot,” the Senator stated. “Encourage your elderly and those with pre-existing conditions to stay quarantined and provide them with financial support. Wear masks, try to socially distance.”

Why does it always seem as though these people care more about their precious economy than they do actual human lives?
