Rudy Giuliani Reportedly Chickened Out Of Meeting With Jan. 6th Committee After They Wouldn’t Let Him Record The Interview

I can't even say I'm surprised.

Not long ago, we reported that Donald Trump’s life was going a little further downhill still, after none other than his own former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani was set to join the numerous other Trump insiders, allies, and family members who have agreed to or have since cooperated with the January 6th House Select Committee that is currently investigating the infamous Capitol attack, and the ex-president’s specific role in it.

But according to rather hilarious new reporting from Business Insider, Rudy has already chickened out of his previously agreed upon meeting with the panel, after the committee denied his request to record the proceedings.

Robert Costello, attorney for the former Trump lawyer and ex-mayor of New York, spoke with CNN and claimed Rudy was originally scheduled to appear at a virtual interview with the January 6th House Panel today, only to cancel the meeting after the committee denied his request to make an audio and video recording of the interview.

Rudy’s attorney claimed that, despite the sudden cancellation, both the House Committee and the former Trump attorney are still in communications.

The representative for the January 6th House Select Committee, Tim Mulvey, released a statement yesterday, claiming that Rudy’s request to make audio and video recordings of his interview was never part of the deal they hashed out for his appearance before the panel.

Mr. Giuliani had agreed to participate in a transcribed interview with the Select Committee. Today, he informed committee investigators that he wouldn’t show up unless he was permitted to record the interview, which was never an agreed-upon condition,” Mulvey’s statement read.

He went on to note that Rudy Giuliani is an “important witness to the conspiracy to overthrow the government” and the former Trump attorney remains under subpoena by the panel.

“If he refuses to comply, the committee will consider all enforcement options,” Mulvey confirmed.

Rudy received a subpoena from the panel back in January, along with three other Trump attorneys: Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, and Boris Epshteyn. Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson said at the time that Giuliani had “actively promoted claims of election fraud” on Trump’s behalf.

The Guardian reports that an inside course claims Rudy wanted to record the interview to help protect himself from the risk of perjury, should another investigation open up.

While Rudy has not yet been held in contempt for his refusal to comply with the subpoena from the panel, it certainly stands that he should take a hint from the likes of Steve Bannon and Mark Meadows.
