Time Magazine named then-New York City Mayor its Person of the Year in 2001 and declared him “Mayor of the World.” Now, the former personal attorney for Donald Trump will be lucky to stay out of prison. Things sure do change quickly. Well, it was Rudy who changed. Vanity Fair reports that Giuliani might be the next individual in Trump’s orbit to be subpoenaed over ties to the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The House select committee investigating the insurrection is looking into a phone call that the twice-impeached one-term President made just hours before the insurrection. That line of inquiry could reportedly involve a subpoena being issued for Giuliani.
“Committee chairman Bennie Thompson told The Guardian that his panel intends to examine the contents of a call Trump made to the Willard Hotel, where his team, including lawyers Giuliani, John Eastman, and Boris Epshteyn, as well as strategist Steve Bannon, were operating a kind of command center across the street from the White House,” the outlet reports.
During that call, the former President said that Mike Pence was not willing to lick Trump’s fascist boots and turn over the election to upset Joe Biden’s certification. So, Trump pressed his advisers to find other ways to stop Biden from getting the keys to the White House.
“That conversation was among several strategy discussions Trump is said to have had with his Willard-based aides the night before the insurrection,” Vanity Fair reports.

“Ultimately, the next day’s joint session was delayed by violent pro-Trump rioters,” the outlet reports. “Trump was reluctant to call off the mob, and Thompson has said the panel is zeroing in on his unwillingness to intervene, a response that could have been informed by the counsel Trump sought only hours earlier.”
‘”If we get the information that we requested,” Thompson said of the committee’s legal battle to secure Trump White House records, “those calls potentially will be reflected to the Willard Hotel and whomever,” ‘the report continues. “But “without testimony from people with knowledge of what was said, House investigators might only learn the target and time of the calls,” The Guardian reported.”
“Monday, which is ostensibly why a subpoena to Giuliani—one of the lieutenants at the Willard—”is understood to be in the offing,” according to the news outlet,” the report adds. “Bannon and Eastman are among the Willard-connected Trump officials who’ve already been subpoenaed by the committee in recent months. Trump, citing executive privilege, has sought to block the release of his White House records by appealing to the Supreme Court.”
At this moment, Trump is once again whining about the Jan. 6 investigation, issuing another statement tweeted out by his spokesperson Liz Harrington to circumvent his ban on the popular social media platform. He’s acting like a scared old man as the investigation amps up.
