Donald Trump’s house of cards is collapsing from the inside out, as the United States Department of Justice just handed down a bombshell sentencing memo, in which they recommended a six-month prison sentence for one of the scandal-ridden former president’s staunchest and most loyal followers and former close aide, Peter Navarro, on charges of contempt of Congress. The Justice Department came to this conclusion based on Navarro’s vehement refusal to cooperate with the House Select Committee that was tasked with investigating the January 5th, 2021 insurrection at the Capitol, despite being the subject of a Congressional subpoena.

A DC court found Navarro guilty of contempt of Congress in September of 2023, following his outright refusal to cooperate with a subpoena issued against him by the January 6th House Select Committee to give his testimony to investigators regarding the events that took place leading up to and during the violent Capitol attack. Navarro was slapped with two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress, punishable by up to a year in prison.

The former assistant to Donald Trump was subpoenaed by the J6 House Select Committee, led by a Democratic majority at the time, back in September of 2022. The House Select Committee compelled Navarro’s testimony, as well as documents in his possession, concerning the events surrounding January 6th and the violent Capitol attack. Narvarro outright refused to comply with the Committee’s subpoena, citing claims of executive privilege, and declined to participate in their investigation in any way.

Recently, a 20-page sentencing memo was publicly released by DOJ Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Aloi, in which she explained that the Justice Department made the 6-month prison sentence recommendation based on Navarro’s “bad-faith strategy” of “sustained, deliberate contempt of Congress.”

Fox News reported that the sentencing memo further added, “The defendant, like the rioters at the Capitol, put politics, not country, first, and stonewalled Congress’s investigation. The defendant chose allegiance to former President Donald Trump over the rule of law.”

In addition to the recommended sentence, which has an expected sentencing date of January 25th in a DC federal district court, the DOJ further requested that Navarro be issued a $200,000 fine.

The former Trump aide recently requested a new trial on claims that a protest at a park nearby the courthouse prejudiced the jury. US District Judge Amit Mehta rejected that request.
