Tom Brady Is Put On The Spot After Reporter Asks Him About Trump And Racism

He did not seem to care for that question.

New England Patriots turned Tampa Bay Buccaneers football star Tom Brady is one member of a long list of “celebrities” who have a weird relationship with former President Donald Trump — I mean, the guy allegedly hoped Brady would tie the knot with his favorite daughter Ivanka — and it seems Brady felt the effects of such recently when he was asked about Donald Trump and racism.

The question was posed during a Zoom press conference yesterday, and frankly, the Buccaneers quarterback probably should have seen it coming from a football field away. Brady hasn’t shied away from calling the former reality TV washup turned ex-president a “friend” in the past, but did stop short at officially endorsing Trump and declined an invitation to appear at the 2016 Republican National Convention when Trump received his first Republican nomination for president.

However, during the Zoom presser yesterday afternoon, USA Today’s Nancy Armour made a point to reference a time when the football player’s political alignment was made far more clear to the public, when he had a MAGA hat in his locker back in 2015 and said that Donald Trump had done “amazing things.”

Armour took the opportunity to ask Brady for his thoughts on commentary that was recently made on Fox Sports’ talk show Undisputed, by co-host and Black former NFL player Shannon Sharpe, who claimed that Brady would have been the center of far more controversy over the MAGA hat if he were Black because Black athletes aren’t “given as much room to weigh in on political topics and topics that could be controversial.”

“Blacks have always had to be very, very quiet about who their friends are,” Sharpe said on the talk show.

Brady squirmed under the question pretty much instantly.

“I’m not sure how to respond to hypothetical questions like that,” the quarterback responded. “I hope everyone can — we’re in this position like I am too, again, try to be the best I can be every day as an athlete, as a player, as a person in my community, for my team and so forth, so yeah, I’m not sure what else.”

Brady’s hesitation for the question was followed by pretty apparent and immediate relief to see that the interview was moving away from the topic that so clearly made him uncomfortable from his place of privilege.
