President Donald Trump threatened the state of Michigan on Twitter for sending absentee ballot applications to 7 million registered voters to assist them in avoiding the risk of contracting coronavirus at the polls on Election Day.
Trump desperately needs to win Michigan if he wants to be re-elected. He only won the state by a slim margin in 2016 and is currently losing there to former Vice President Joe Biden in the polls.
After neighboring Wisconsin suffered a spike in coronavirus cases and deaths by forcing voters to physically go to the polls during the primary election in April, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson sent more than 7 million registered voters an absentee ballot application so they can vote by mail instead of risking their lives to cast a ballot in person.
Of course, this set Trump off. He accused the state of committing an “illegal” act and threatened to punish Michigan by cutting off funding the state needs.

Number one, no one was sent a ballot. They were sent applications for absentee ballots, to make sure they qualify for one under the state’s guidelines.
But number two, voting by mail is not voter fraud. The military votes by mail. So do the entire states of Oregon, Washington, and Utah. Also, as states control elections and secretaries of state are responsible for overseeing those elections, the Secretary of State in every state is within their rights to send out absentee ballot applications and approve them if applicants send in the required information.
Again, this isn’t illegal. It should also be pointed out that Trump himself votes by mail.

Benson also clapped back against Trump by pointing out that red states are doing the same thing as Michigan.
