Trump Apparently Told Wealthy Donors At Mar-a-Lago: “Who The Hell Cares About The Budget?”

And Trump supporters won't care.

Donald Trump — who promised to eliminate the nation’s debt while on the campaign trail — delivered remarks at a fancy-pants private dinner with über-wealthy donors Friday night at Mar-a-Lago, the Washington Post reports. What the current occupant of the White House told his rich pals is quite a departure from what Trump said as a candidate. Quelle surprise!

Trump was heard in an audio clip bragging about increasing the defense budget by $2.5 trillion. In response to those who criticized his spending and the growing national debt, Trump said, “Who the hell cares about the budget? We’re going to have a country.” In the clip about the military budget, the Post reports that Trump also said, “It’s been an incredible period of time and that’s despite the witch hunt.”

Trump blasted Obama in 2012 on Twiter, writing, “This has to stop! @BarackObama loves accruing American debt…”

And again:

Trump has now added $2.6 trillion to the national debt in just three years and that is more than Obama added to the debt in his entire second term. Trump promised in 2016 to eliminate both the national debt and the annual budget deficit but they’ve reached all-time highs, and the Tea Party that blasted former President Barack Obama for spending money to dig us out of a recession is suddenly quiet about the former reality show star spending like a drunken sailor.

Under Obama, the deficit was cut dramatically. Trump, in contrast, has done the opposite while providing no path for an alternative to Obamacare, as promised, or repairs to our infrastructure. And while he touts military spending, military families and national security are set to help pay for Trump’s ego-wall on the Southern border.

While Trump brags about the stock markets and job numbers, he’s still lagging behind Obama. If Obama had ever said, “Who the hell cares about the budget? We’re going to have a country,” conservatives would have surrounded the White House with torches and pitchforks in hand. And we already have a country but it sounds like Trump is taking credit for that.
