Trump Appears To Choose Megachurch Whose Pastor Speaks In Tongues To Hold Evangelicals Event

How can they be so blind?

Donald Trump is trying to shore up his evangelical base even while he does the most fundamentally un-Christian things, and even after he attacked a large Christian magazine that Billy Graham founded because it called for his impeachment and removal from office. The Trump organization announced on Friday that the “president” will hold an Evangelicals for Trump event on Jan. 3rd at an Apostolic megachurch in Miami.

The Miami Herald reports that the pastor of the King Jesus International Ministry speaks in tongues and performs what he describes as “miracles.” Now, I don’t know if any of y’all have witnessed someone speaking in tongues, and I don’t want to offend anyone, but it’s like throwing a Sarah Palin word salad into a blender, then someone else translates it in the church to explain what God was saying through them. Which, to me, makes no sense because if God is all-powerful, He could just come out and talk to you without the gibberish, or through a middleman.

The church, which frequents political candidates — and one that should be used as an example to tax the church — is host to one of the largest Hispanic congregations in the country. Maybe the constituents are unaware of how Trump has treated and continues to treat Puerto Ricans, I don’t know.

“It’s a massive congregation, with thousands of people,” said Carlos Curbelo, a Republican former congressman. “And it’s a lot of swing voters.”

Trump knows the areas to hit.

“The typical swing voter in Miami-Dade County is a non-Cuban Hispanic voter,” said Curbelo. An event drawing a crowd that is not only evangelical but also Hispanic, he told the news outlet, amounts to “a political twofer” for Trump.

The founder of the church, Guillermo Maldonado has been the focus of skepticism in the past for claiming to raise people from the dead.

“She was in the morgue, and she prayed for an hour,” Maldonado said on a religious talk show at the time. “And, an hour later, her daughter came back to life. This happens a lot for people.”

Evangelicals are in a battle with each other after Christianity Today called for the “president’s” removal from office with Trump-supporting pastors stepping in to blast the very magazine that Billy Graham founded. They’re eating their own and it’s spectacular to watch.
