Not long ago, we reported that the former Chief of Staff of Donald Trump’s old right-hand man Mike Pence was set to comply with a subpoena from the January 6th House Select Committee and give his testimony regarding his knowledge surrounding the infamous, violent Capitol attack.

According to a new report from CNN, that has now officially happened, and we can all but guarantee that Donald Trump won’t handle the news well.

CNN notes in their report that Marc Short’s cooperation and testimony in the January 6th investigation marks the most “significant sign to date” that Mike Pence’s team is cooperating with the probe into the attack perpetrated by Donald Trump’s supporters against this nation’s Capitol building and all the congress members inside.

“Short, who was with Pence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and participated in a critical White House meeting on January 4, 2021, is seen as a potentially crucial witness in the committee’s investigation as the panel pieces together the pressure campaign then-President Donald Trump and his allies waged to try to convince Pence not to certify the presidential election,” the CNN report reads.

The publication goes on to report that Short has already turned over a “limited number” of documents that were included in the subpoena issued to him by the House panel. One of those documents was reportedly a memo from Trump aide Johnny McEntee, in which he compared the now-former president to Thomas Jefferson. Thus far, it’s unclear whether or not Pence himself will testify to the committee.

“Pence is seeking to walk a tightrope between affirming that he did the right thing on January 6 and the fact that he will need the support of Trump’s base, which falsely believes the 2020 election was stolen, to gain traction in a 2024 Republican presidential primary,” Jamie Gangel, Gloria Borger, and Jeremy Herb report for CNN. “Pence has been vague about how much he will cooperate with the committee, and his advisers have pushed back in the media after committee members praised Pence as a ‘hero’ and ‘patriot.'”
