Donald Trump really fucked things up when it came to his split-second decision to pull US troops out of the Syria/Turkey border, essentially giving the Turkish government the green light to launch an attack against the Kurds who have been staunch allies to the United States for decades and even greatly assisted in the defeat of ISIS.
The screw up was so big actually that even one of Trump’s most devoted supporters, Senator Lindsey Graham, has begun to criticize him on social media for leaving the Kurds to die and effectively turning the US into an untrustworthy, shady ally.
While Graham hasn’t yet found the guts to actually tag the president in his Twitter rants, given Trump’s incessant social media use, it’s safe to say that he’s seeing them.
“I hope President Trump is right in his belief that Turkeys invasion of Syria is of no concern to us, abandoning the Kurds won’t come back to haunt us, ISIS won’t reemerge, and Iran will not fill the vacuum created by this decision,” Graham wrote in one tweet. “However, I firmly believe that if President Trump continues to make such statements this will be a disaster worse than President Obama’s decision to leave Iraq.”

“I worry we will not have allies in the future against radical Islam, ISIS will reemerge, & Iran’s rise in Syria will become a nightmare for Israel,” the Senator continued in the thread. “The statements by President Trump about Turkey’s invasion being of no concern to us also completely undercut Vice President Pence and Sec. Pompeo’s ability to end the conflict.”

As it turns out, Trump most definitely saw Graham’s Twitter outbursts and had more than a little to say about it during a joint press conference with the Italian president today.
Lindsey Graham would like to stay in the Middle East for the next thousand years with thousands of soldiers and fighting other people’s wars. I want to get out of the Middle East. I think Lindsey should focus on the judiciary like the do-nothing-Democrats. They are getting nothing done. They’re not getting anything done. They’re not getting USMCA done between Canada and the United States between Mexico. I think Lindsey should focus on Judiciary. He ought to find out what happened with Comey. What happened with McCabe, what happened with Comey, what happened with Lisa and Peter Strzok and what happened with President Obama, what happened with Brennan. That’s what Lindsey ought to focus on. That what the people of South Carolina want him to focus on. The people of South Carolina don’t want us to get into a war with Turkey or Syria… Let them fight their own war.“
Basically, Donnie would really appreciate it if you’d stay the hell out of his business, Lindsey.
I suppose now we just wait and see if Graham has the gumption to follow this thing through, or if he’ll be making his way right back into Donald’s lap like the good little dog he is.
