Trump Said Ted Cruz Was “Violent And Vicious” When He Ran Against Him In 2016

He's still bonkers.

Whenever a narcissist accuses someone else of something, it’s a confession. When Sen. Cancun Cruz campaigned against Donald Trump for the Republican nomination, the two candidates volleyed insults at each other. That’s the nature of politics, though. However, Donald Trump got personal with his insults toward the Texas Republican.

Trump often referred to Cruz during the primaries as “Lyin’ Ted,” and also falsely accused Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, of being a close associate of John F. Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. Trump also suggested that Cruz’s wife, Heidi, is ugly.

The former president is now claiming that Cruz was “violent and vicious” when they ran against each other during the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, according to The Independent.

Trump and Fox News contributor and podcaster Lisa Boothe discussed the future of the Republican Party and who might lead it. On the podcast The Truth with Lisa Boothe, Trump said,  “We have a lot of young, good people. [Governor] Ron DeSantis is doing a really good job in Florida, and I think [Missouri Senator] Josh Hawley has shown some real courage in going after big tech. You know, they go after him. Josh is terrific. And you know somebody that’s been really terrific is Ted Cruz.”

“You know, he and I had it out for a while. Actually, we were very close even during the campaign, and then he got nasty, “Trump continued.

“The press would say, ‘when’s the nastiness going to start?’ I said, ‘don’t worry, it’ll start.’ And then he got very, very, you know, rather violent and vicious. But then it simmered down and he’s been great,” the former president added.

As for running in 2024, Trump said that he’ll “make that decision sometime later.”

“If you look at the polls, they love the job that I’ve done. We had a 97 percent approval at CPAC, a 97 percent approval on policies and different things,” Trump said.

Actually, Trump is referring to support from Republican voters, and as for the CPAC straw vote, the former president only garnered 55 percent of support for him running in 2024.

After Cruz threw his support behind Trump in 2018,  the now-former president claimed that the Texas Republican was no longer “Lyin’ Ted” but instead, he was now “Beautiful Ted.”

That one time Cruz told the truth:

And then, of course, Cruz followed Trump’s lead and even campaigned for him. Cruz went as far as to spread Trump’s Big Lie that led to the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection. That, of course, was after he said, “I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father” during the primaries.
