Former President Donald Trump issued a statement on Thursday that was tweeted out by his spokesperson Liz Harrington to circumvent his social media ban after he incited the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection. The twice-impeached one-term president offered sympathy for those charged for their participation in the Jan. 6 riot. The former president didn’t mention the controversial rally at the Capitol scheduled for Saturday backed by supporters of people arrested in the insurrection. Still, he did mention the rioters charged just two days before the rally for the insurrectionists.

The protective fencing raised around the U.S. Capitol after the Jan. 6 insurrection is being reinstalled ahead of the planned “Justice for J6” rally on Sept. 18. Trump is obviously making things worse with his statement. That’s what he does, after all. He’s like an arsonist that starts a fire, then rushes into his bunker only to come out to blame everyone that got burned.

Trump, who was impeached for inciting the attack on the Capitol, repeated his false statements about the 2020 presidential election being stolen in his statement.

“Our hearts and minds are with the people being persecuted so unfairly relating to the January 6th protest concerning the Rigged Presidential Election,” Trump said. “In addition to everything else, it has proven conclusively that we are a two-tiered system of justice. In the end, however, JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL!”

The rally on Saturday is organized by a former Trump staffer. USCP and the Washington Metropolitan Police Department are preparing for the demonstration. Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who oversaw a critical review of Capitol Police operations in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack, said, according to USA Today, that security officials “must assume that this rally has the potential to become a terrorist attack” and officers should be prepared to use lethal force, if necessary. And even though there will likely be a dismal showing of attendees compared to the insurrection, Trump’s statement just pretty much guaranteed that more people will attend one of the biggest hissy fits in history.
